A Comment by Leggett and Sols [Phys. Rev. Lett. 81 (1998) 1344] disagreed with our Letter [Phys. Rev. Lett. 78 (1997) 4675] about the state of the atomic system after a trapped Bose-Einstein condensate has been split by erecting a potential barrier in the middle. Our view is that, while both the Letter and the Comment seem correct within their premises, at this point there is no conclusice evidence to decide in favor of either set of premises.
